Cat-like lady

Lady should live like a cat. I forgot when and where I saw this sentence or similar to this sentence, but now I quite agree with it.

One of my friends used to say he liked cats because they live on their own way, never over-rely on people which don't like dogs always stick to people, fallow the people.

Definitely, cats have more sense of self-esteem and amour-propre. Cats understand their own feelings, have ability to inspire themselves to lead healthy and happy life and they are never swayed by considerations of gain and loss. They won't feel sorrow even if they are alone as they fallow their own style and will to live. They are gentle, independent and nobler.

Lady should have that kind of temperament, at least, I keep that opinion. In their philosophy, nothing is worse but better. Don't worry they will live worse without you, they will find out a better way for themselves. They can adapt a new life immediately. They quite know how to enjoy their lives, they know where is sunshining, where is the most comfortable place and then they will stay there for a cozy while untill they wanna change. With you, it's better, they also enjoy playing with you, enjoy your consideration. But they know how to refuse everything made them feel unhappy. If you made them feel uncomfortable, they will escape you smartly and won't waste your time forever.

Sometimes, if you abanden them, they will feel sorrow, but they won't beg for more. They are quite comprehensive, they will tramp alone bravely until they find out an owner who knows how to cherish and love them.

One of my friends said I like a cat. Whatever he meant I look like a cat, eat like a cat or my character likes a cat or just cos I am as lazy as a cat, I did feel pleasant. At least, I admire cat-like ladies.

However, for men, cat-like ladies maybe only suitable to be a special friend or girl friend. They are smart, mysterious, tolerant and comprehensive, seldom cause big troubles, but they made the men feel insecure. I believe every man, good or bad, old or young, open-minded or conservative, they have certain potential to day dream they are kings, at least live like a king no matter which aspects. So dog-like ladies maybe more suitable to be wifves. They are docile, trustworthy, loyal and devoted. No matter how you abuse them or hurt them, they will still stay with you and treat you well untill you feel touched and guilty, and in the end you feel yourself can't live without her. Not because you live her, but you have got used to that kind of life. Although not every kings are happy, who wants to get rid of it. So, at this moment, a cat-like lady was attracted......

I feel for dog-like ladies, they lost themselves sometimes. Although cat-like ladies seem hard to find out a life partner (maybe too serious lar), at least they live for themselves.

Always, at the end of the article, I start to say nonsense......

Nonsense

Today, i asked my bf who's completely a "sciencialize" person a question:

"when the snow thaws, where does the white go?"- which is asked by William Shakespeare.(i'm not sure the original wording, but the meaning is that)

As i see, it's a great question, and inspire me to contemplate a lot...but my bf's sciencefom answer, which was a so serious and logical analyse, destroyed my imagination of it.

That's the life. Science and literature exist in the same world. The literature or art give us imagination, and the science always destroyed it. i.e. the moon, the sky etc. We used to have so many  gorgeous and brilliant legendaries to fullfill people's imagination. But now, we human beings are so smart that can explain nearly everything. The fields are no longer mysterious.

Sometimes, unknown is exciting, like our future. Just because we don't know everything, we find out the fun of the life including the people we can not fully understand, which give us more interest to get along with.

Like everyone enjoys the process of seeking, not exactly the result......

Farewell my lovely dear Helena~

Today, we farewell my affectionate Helena as she will go to Hk, and I leave LB too.

A little bit upsad as I won't see my dear Helena often in the later days. She's my first boss in my formal career (although is just intern). But it's definitely her gave me an opportunity to join LeoBurnett and experience a completely different studying life.

She's not only an excellent boss, but also a mentor and bosom friend. She gave me a lot of recognition and encouragement especially for me such a freshman in the sociaty which is certain important.

I can't express my feeling to you in any words, and even the most vivid word is inane. I prefer to keep it in heart and save and nourish it.

All my best to you, Helena! Hope you enjoy a satisfied and wonderful life there. And also a big thank to you.

Individualism in Cultural Conflict

Individualism in Cultural Conflict

Definition of Individualism

Individualism is the core of American cultural. Since this theory appeared, the debate about it has been lasting for nearly three centuries. Although we could not judge whether is right or wrong, but we really know the essential of which is esteem of individual, including personal consideration, self-determination, individual judgment and freedom to choose privy life style.

When talking about individualism separately, we only see it’s a neuter, or it’s only a life attitude or a character for certain common people. However, we know collectivism is the opposite, if we put them together or what’s more, their benefits cause conflict, we have to re-consider the appreciation of Individualism

Extreme Individualism is overflowing in China

Individualism offers the following commentary on the relationship between the two groups, modern generation and conservative orthodoxy generation, which characterizes a cultural conflict.

1.    Performance of modern generation

In this group, most of them were born after 1980s. The time shaped them accept the new alternative quickly, and be influenced by Western cultural as well, which dues to the society transformation. They hate everyone looks like the same, and desire to become out-standing, and truly value their individuality. They celebrate it and are looking for different ways to help them express their individuality and cater to their distinctive preferences.

Freedom is the annotation of their desires. When playing roles in the collectivity, they require to be respected their right and decision. They also demand to have their own mentality, have right to refuse what they don’t like and also the right to do what they love. In their primary school time, they refused to learn what their parents’ arrangement of the avocation courses in Children’s Home but immersed themselves into the realms really attracted them; when came to high school, they argued for the taste of amativeness no matter how the eldership forbid; After the graduation, they chose the suitable career for themselves even if some of them couldn’t joy their parents and couldn’t trend to the majority of society either.

They hate millions of people look like undistinguishable whole and quarrel with fallowing the trend of the society but attempt to reverse or even lead to it. They are creative and original and spend a lot of passion to discover fresh stuff. They always or totally disagree their elderships, but trust their friends and fellows.

Individualism and personalization may be highly valued to these youth as it enables them to filter through an over-abundance of messages and dogmas, behaviors and choices and only focus on what's most relevant to their own needs and preferences.

2.    Performance of conservative orthodoxy generation

The conservatives, most of whom are modern generation’s parental or grandparental generation, maintain a collectivistic life. Their traditional view of value demands them to sacrifice personal benefit and contribute to the collectivity and they accept it and even think that’s the highest path of the life. In their opinion, they are made for cooperation, like the hands, like the feet. They believe a person who is too out-standing will be liable to be attacked and are satisfied to be a common people in a group and avoid being a topic of the others. Juniors obey seniors; subordinates obey supervisors, are their guide line of walking in the society; abiding by the traditional morality and behave themselves are the credendum of their life.

Ascribe to this conception exists, as a patriarch in the family; they suppose naturally the children should behave under their parents’ will and they also dutiful to their parents. They regard the modern youth as impious; the modern youth does not venerate ancient beliefs and customs, or the natural world, or his country, or the immortal spark in his fellow men. In their eyes, individualism is a negative word and a contravention of their orthodoxy education.

3.    Extreme caused conflict

When viewing these two groups separately, we can just say they lead different life style and keep different attitude of individualism. However, their view of value is radically opposite. In case the people stand on each side run to the extreme and misunderstood or misuse the concept, and then jump into this arena- a conflict occurs in involuntary.

Since individualism was introduced to China, it identified those two groups I mentioned above and also has been a debatable topic for a long time. As a human being or what’s more, a creature, selfish desire is ubiquitous. Individualism, in certain sense, releases such demand of human beings. And then some of people misuse it as a high-sounding pretense to tolerate their self-concern. They are not easy to accept the others critiques but easy to have a debate to the others which only belongs to a minor degree. Additionally, they give their ears, and even peach against the collectivity to achieve personal benefit. After all, moral individualism is not the same thing as egoism; even if one believes in absolute altruism towards one's fellows, those fellows must be recognized in their value as individuals rather than as an amorphous social blob. The precondition for treating another person as a person is to recognize his individual worth.

People stands for non-individualism are often rooted in the misunderstanding concerning the individual. They set too much limited to develop individual and less respect or listen to the juniors’ decision. And they will also snuff out the other’s promotion in the career ladder, but disuse an excuse to obey collectivity.

The real root of many disagreements between the “modern” and the “conservative” thinkers centers around the term "individualism," those who identify themselves as individualists or focus on individuals are accused of denying man's social nature.

Individualism is an avoidless trend in China.

As the individualism is so heat in China now, many people will be afraid that’s another cultural aggression challenging Chinese tradition. Economy globalization is delighted to accept it, but how about cultural globalization? It sounds horrible!

A nation could not lose their own cultural, but how to judge right or wrong depends on we use which value system. And how to choose the value system accords to your cultural. It sounds like a paradox. Therefore, that’s the reason confused the youth in China now. These are pandemic confusions on the part of conservative parents that have plagued their interpretations of bringing up their lovely but opposite children. This point is also confused for the youth, especially when they face to involving into the society. Who are themselves is still a frequent question for them.

Now that the trend of individualism is unshirkable, the only thing we can do is to accept and tolerant, but more important thing is to view it or use it objectively.

thaNk you Indeed, taCK care~

For a duration of 7 months (Mar-Oct, 2007), I interned in Leo Burnett, a multi-national 4A advertising agency in Guang Zhou, which gave me an invaluable chance to practice my knowledge as much as possible in a real-world business environment. It also inspired me to learn more outside the profession and now, I would like to share my experiences.

1.    Everything must start from zero, but the knowledge I learned from the university drove me to be a fast-learner.

Before I joined the company, I only had basic knowledge regarding branding and marketing. Perhaps like most other students, at the beginning I thought that the universities’ courses were unpractical and didn’t help me further advance myself in the profession. My classmates and I all thought it didn’t relate to the real-world, thus making us uninterested in the classes. I soon came to find that the classes did really pay off in my further studies, since I advanced greater than most of my other intern colleagues who were not in the same major as I was. I progressed and I learned to have a better sense of advertising, for example, my sharp insight in some of the contemporary issues and awareness of the details found in advertisements.

When I first arrived, it was unclear exactly what my duties were to be. I was assigned to do a research project and asked to prepare a number of profiles on the toothpaste market (a similar market to the chewing gum- our client was Wrigley). There had been previous work preparing profiles on the other similar oral care markets. It therefore made sense for me to adopt this project for the first few weeks. Using the gathered data I created a report that would conclude detail recent trends in the oral care market. I started by creating a variety of graphs and tables that highlighted major commercial campaigns of the market. The data that was included function distributions, TVC concepts and also integrated marketing communications. For the project, I had to recollect and process most of the data via internet and in store inspections.

I feel I did a great job on best practices and covered nearly every detail which went even beyond my supervisors’ expectations. I am thankful for what we did in class and my homework assignments at university which made me easily prepared for this project. If I am required to give any advice it would be “kindly concentrate on each project or homework we did in university”. It was that helpful.

2.    English I learn from the university is inadequate when I need to have in a real-world business environment.

I was aware that English was very important when I was younger, but there is no will stronger than that which I posses now, which pushes me to study much harder than at any time in the past. In a multi-national company English is the working language. Every day, I was forced to use my poor English to deal with the daily loads of work. At the beginning, I felt a little overwhelmed. Although I was a Class C student in university, at least I passed the CET 4 and CET 6. However, I found this of little use in my work, either when writing or reading English. I am struggled in particular with oral English, for the first month I worked here; I seldom fully understood the English meetings. The work I did in English had to be extensively corrected by my supervisor. Every time I received a revision that was full of red characters I felt so ashamed that I promised myself I must learn it well, otherwise I would be incompetent not only in my current job, but also the future careers.

Therefore, during my continued studying, I discovered several points about studying Business English. First, brevity is best. In my work, I have to deal with a lot of emails, so writing a simple but effective email is very important as everyone is busy. Second, it’s necessary to expand my vocabulary as well, especially within the profession. However, I’m sure I learn more of this from my daily contact with the industry. Last but not least, fluent communication became a daily task in my schedule. I realize that although now I have less opportunity to present my work in English, I believe in the future I will have to do this if I hope to progress up the career ladder.

3.    It’s vitally important to expand our knowledge.

With some practical experience behind me, I recognized that I needed to familiarize myself further with branding via internet research and through available literature. For the first several weeks in Leo Burnett, whilst learning more about analyzing, I acquired relevant information about market research and analyzing. Additionally, I realized that it was important to understand, and to be conscious of potential cultural, social, economic, and political factors that may influence the market and consumer’s attitudes towards each product.

That said, I have had a great experience working as an intern in Leo Burnett GZ, particularly attending to and helping on different projects. The internship has helped to shape my ideas about what I would like and what I should do for my academic and professional career. I plan to read more books and magazines which cover literature, society, the economy and psychology. I formed this idea whilst attending a couple of meetings and also doing a lot of paper work.

A big thank to Leo Burnett and my lovely supervisors and colleagues for their generous and unfailing support and help!
